KLA Schools of Naperville

Naperville, IL – September 11th, 2020 – KLA Schools of Naperville believes that family involvement plays a huge part in a child’s success throughout their educational journey and this week was all about Grandparents. Usually, KLA celebrates in person, but we celebrated virtually due to new COVID-19 health and safety policies. It is a beauty to see the love radiating virtually! From Illinois, Moldova, and down in Mexico, grandparents were able to join from all over the world!

All the age groups at KLA had a scheduled time and day throughout the week for their Grandparents to RSVP. The Infants and toddlers hosted the event from their classroom and invited the Grandparents to join them for their daily Assemblies. Ms. Christina, a teacher in the Baby Nido Classroom, described the event. “Grandparents are such a meaningful part of our lives, and the way we celebrated them was inviting them to join us for our morning Assembly. The students gathered in a group, and we led welcoming songs in English and Spanish. We also invited the grandparents to introduce themselves and share how much they care for and love their grandchildren. It was so touching to experience strong connections, even though our Zoom meeting. We finished by reading a story and with a heartfelt goodbye.”

The rest of the classrooms, students, ranging from two-year-old to school-age, had the option of hosting the event in the School’s Grand Piazza, or space known as the school’s heart. They were using a large screen and projector to make the experience extra special! The passionate educators put together slide shows of their students with their grandparents outside of school. Some of the students also designed a gift, drew a picture, or shared a special message for their Grandma, Grandpa, Papa, Nana, Bunica, Tetea, Abuela, or Abuelo. Ms. Meghan, Class of the 4s teacher, said, “It is so touching seeing the amount of love the children have expressed for their families. Our students learned songs and have been interested in Sign Language, so they have been practicing different words and phrases to express themselves and how much they care.” Ms. Kelly, 4s teacher, quoted some of the messages the students shared with their grandparents. “I love my grandparents because they let me sleep with them.” “I love my grandparents because they love me.” “My grandparents help me, that’s why I love them.” “My grandparents are the best because they play with me.”

It is safe to say that the Pandemic has not stopped the family involvement that KLA believes is so crucial in all their students’ success. The next family event at KLA is on the morning of September 26th. Instead of their annual Family Walk-a-Thon for a Cause, they are hosting a Virtual Family Yoga event.
